You and me both. I tried reading "How Shall We Then Live" a few years ago and it was over my head, although "A Christian Manifesto" made a bit more sense to me.

Yes. In a mountainous region of Vietnam, the soldiers give their different camps names from famous European mountains: Firebase Matterhorn, Firebase Eiger, etc.

Why is everybody haten on Schaeffer? For everyone who reacts like Here Am I or Laura, there's someone who's enormously blessed by his work. Nobody should be scared off by him. As for having to use the dictionary frequently, what's the matter with that? As KJB peeps, don't we do a lot of that anyway?

When I hear the name I remember a holiday when my parents still were together and I was walking in the snow of that mountian in my flipflops about 7, 8 or 9 years of age Smile sweet dear memories.

I didn't intend to express dislike for him as much as expressing, for me personally, my lack of comprehension skills. I do use a dictionary in Bible study, but not that often. I was having to consult it with about every paragraph with Schaeffer's books. I have no doubt as to him being a spiritual man, and now haveing been reprimanded Smile , I guess I do owe his books another look at. Read

I too use dictionaries when I read English books and that way my vocabulary grows every time.
I also write the meaning of words , that are unfamiliar to me, above or under the difficult word when needed.
You're not the only one and that way you still learn a lot Smile

No no no, dear brother! I wasn't referring to you; I was halfway teasing Here Am I and Laura. But just as nobody should be scared off by Schaeffer, nobody should feel obligated to read him, either. He's not for everyone. I meant no rebuke at all.

RE: What are you reading?
And I wasn't trying to say Schaeffer was hard, just the concepts are hard for ME to understand, but I want to!

"A Christian Manifesto" was great, wonderful, 5 star rating!

With "Escape From Reason", I could somewhat grasp what he was trying to say, but did not understand everything, so I'm going to read it again.
