What's the Elect?
So, what is the elect?

Is is Israel?

Is it the body of Christ?

Anyone got this thing nailed down?

Just my opinion.
It is Jesus, the Jews and Jewish proselytes, and the Angels who did not fall.
IMO there is not reference in the Pauline Epistles applicable to the church, the body of Christ...in Col.3:12 where it says " AS"the elect, whereby it MAY be interpreted as "imitating" the elect...holy and beloved.
We should strive for a sinless walk, but it is not achievable for most.
I do not believe many of us can be considered "holy" because of the stain of sin in our bodies. The "elect" ARE holy because of their mandatory sinless requirement, of which we are not justified by..we are justified be Christ's sinlessness.
Just my two cents.

"They stand fast for ever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness."
Psalm 111:8

RE: What's the Elect?
1. Jesus is God's elect.
2. Israel is God's elect nation.
3. We Christians are God's elect by virtue of our being in Christ (see point 1).
4. Angels that didn't rebel are elect.

a couple of sites to consider.

Morning; very busy morning; back later.

Christians are God's elect. If it were possible even God's elect would be decieved........ The Jews were decieved and rejected Christ Jesus. They must be born again and come to Jesus just as 'anyone' (gentile). The angels are with God and therefore not decieved as they rejected satan when he fell (they were there).

I wish it was that simple.

Is. 45:4, "For Jacob my servant's sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me."

Well I took a looksee and the word "elect" shows up 20 times in SwordSearcher. The first four times (and only times in the OT) are in Isaiah and refer to Jesus and Israel.

Jesus refers to the elect seven times through the Gospels so I take it He's talking about Israel.

The remaining nine times are throughout Paul's letters and in 2 John 1. These references mention Christians, elect angels, Jesus, and the elect lady and elect sister in 2 John.

Looks to me like CKG has it nailed down.

I elect his answer as a good one. All those in favor say, "Amen!" Smile

"So I saw in my dream, that just as Christian came up with the cross, his burden loosed from off his shoulders, and fell from off his back, and began to tumble, and so continued to do till it came to the mouth of the sepulchre, where it fell in, and I saw it no more."

I already said it. If I say it again, Craig will get a big head.
