Jesus had black hair
I have heard Dr. Ruckman say on several occasions the Bible says Jesus had black hair. He never gives the verse though. Does anyone know what verse he is talking about?

RE: Jesus had black hair
verses 5:10-16..
I don't see where it says the Saviour is being described. The wife is describing her husband. Though I do believe Jesus probably did have black hair as most middle eastern people do. He would not have stuck out in appearance from the other men. The Bible does tell us Judas had to kiss him so the guards knew who Jesus was when they arrested him. That would tell you he looked like a common man. |

That's the virtually unanimous understanding of the entire Christian world, and for once, the majority is correct. He was a Shemite, a Jew; although intermarriage has created blonde Jews in other parts of the world, you'll find very few Israelis who don't have black or dark brown hair. ![]() |

RE: Jesus had black hair
I agree Jesus through out the Bible is the husband and the church is the bride. But wasn't The Song of Solomon a book to teach husband and wife about marriage?
Maybe I need to get Doc's commentary on this book.. I appear to be a little confused. |

I don't think you're confused. Just remember that a verse, passage, or book can have several different meanings, as long as they don't contradict. The Song of Solomon wasn't written as a marriage manual, although some evangelical authors have tried to teach it that way. But it's certainly something a husband and wife can enjoy together. But there's more practical instruction on marriage in Proverbs and Paul's epistles than in the Song of Solomon. From a human standpoint, it's a love story: two lovers talking about each other. That's one of the meanings. Obviously, historically, the husband is Solomon. It is also an allegory of Christ's love for the church. This is probably the most important meaning for us. The Jews have always interpreted it as an allegory of God's love for the nation of Israel: although, because of its content, Jewish boys were not allowed to read it until they reached a certain age. None of these meanings contradict. The book is all of these things. But it's deceptive: it looks simple enough, but it contains plenty of doctrinal and even prophetic stuff. One reason that people say Jesus will return in the springtime is found in chapter two. Think of the man as Christ, and the woman as the church, as you read this passage: My beloved spake, and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away. For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone; The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land; The fig tree putteth forth her green figs, and the vines with the tender grape give a good smell. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away. (2:10-13) Remember that the budding of the fig tree is a symbol of the regathering of Israel (1948). If that's not a description of the Rapture, I'll eat my keyboard! ![]() |

He hasn't written one, but here is the first page of the book from the Ruckman Reference Bible. For copyright reasons, I felt antsy about scanning any more. However, his heading for Chapter 2 is "A Picture of the Second Coming." ![]() ![]() |

I think I'm going to need to break down and buy a Ruckman Reference Bible when the 2nd edition comes out. Thanks William.
