Step One: the Practical Approach

Step One: the Practical Approach
Perhaps the first lesson in defending the King James Bible might be called "the practical approach." We'll deal with the issues of ancient texts, and how we got the Bible, and all the rest; but, as an introduction, let's just look at some changes that have been made in the new translations.

Now, there are charts on these things all over the Internet, and I'll link to a few, but I don't want to overwhelm anybody.

Here are some changes that have been made in virtually all of the new versions since 1901 (American Standard Bible). We'll refer to the new versions as NV, and occasionally list them: New International Version (NIV), New American Standard "Bible" (NASV), Holman Christian Standard Version (HCS, the new one sponsored by the Southern Baptists), NLT (New Living Translation), and "New King James Version" (NKJV), and many others. If you have a different one, like The Message, check it out.

There are about 250 English Bibles or New Testaments that have been published since the English Revised Version of 1881: all of them claimed to be "updating" the "archaic" King James Bible. Which raises the interesting question: why so many?

Think about it. Over 200 "updates" in just over 100 years. Does the English language become "archaic" every six months? Really? Does anyone actually believe that?

Anyway, here are some changes: a very, very short list. I invite other members to add their own favorites, or non-favorites. Compare the King James reading to the NV (new versions) reading, and tell me which you think honors the Lord. Judge for yourself. The verses are from the King James Bible. The words highlighted in blue have been removed from the new versions.

Matthew 1:25

And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.

This reinforces the Catholic idea that Jesus was Mary's only child, which is not true: Joseph and Mary had others after His birth.

Matthew 6:13

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Nice, huh? But the Bible correctors say they're not changing anything "important." Sure thing....

(Note: in many cases, the words are not removed, but a marginal note says that the words "are not found in the oldest and best manuscripts." Either way, they're trying to get rid of the reading.)

Matthew 6:33

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

If you like, you can seek the kingdom of Marx, Satan, or the Magic Kingdom of Disney.

Matthew 9:13

But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Maybe God is calling sinners to a Tupperware party; who knows?

Matthew 12:47

Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee.

The entire verse is removed or "footnoted." Again, protecting the "perpetual virginity of Mary."

Matthew 18:11

For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.

Entire verse removed or footnoted. But they're not changing anything important, you understand.

Matthew 18:26

The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.

Somebody doesn't like the idea of Jesus being worshipped. I wonder who?

Matthew 19:17

And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

Two tiny little problems: if you remove "God," then Jesus could be talking about anybody: maybe He was saying that Batman or Mohammed were good. But the serious thing is this: this is one of Jesus' strongest statements of His own Deity. He's saying, "Do you believe I'm God?" But the Bible correctors don't want us to think about that.

Matthew 20:20

Then came to him the mother of Zebedees children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him.

NV change "worshipping him" to "kneeling down." Again, somebody doesn't like the idea of Jesus being worshipped.

Matthew 24:36

But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of Heaven, but my Father only.

NV changed "my Father" to "the Father," thus diluting Jesus' Deity again. That, in fact, is the purpose behind most of the changes they make.

Matthew 27:35

And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.

Removing the prophecy of Psalm 22:18. Somebody doesn't want us to see Jesus as the fulfillment of prophecy.

Matthew 27:54

Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.

NV changes it to "a son of God;" thus, at the very moment when Jesus is dying for our sins, the Bible correctors attack His Deity. This should make any Christian weep with rage.

Okay, those are some of the changes (not all) from a single book of the Bible. Many others are even worse. I'm just giving a starting point, and I invite everyone to add other changes to this thread.

But that's the beginning of a defense of the King James Bible. The modern versions simply attack the Deity of Christ in as many ways as possible, or twist the words to deny prophecy or teach Catholic doctrine. (That's because they're based on Catholic Greek manuscripts, but that's a subject for another thread.) Here are some good comparison charts, if you can stomach more of this blasphemy:

RE: Step One: the Practical Approach
Thank you very much for doing this, I know it takes a lot of mental effort. I am subscribed now and I will follow.

O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker.
For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.

Psalm 95:6-7a

The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow.

RE: Step One: the Practical Approach
I'd like to comment on something that is removed or changed in the NVs:

6"This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.
7 For there are three that bear record in Heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one." (1 John 5:6-8)

Look especially at verse 7...some very important doctrine there, right? The trinity is spelled out, very clearly.

Okay, that's what the AV has, but what about the other versions, what do they say?

Here is the top selling NV, the NIV:

NIV Wrote:This is the one who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.
For there are three that testify:
the[a] Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.'

What happened to verse 7??? Where did it go? Where is my Lord and Saviour, the Word? Where is the Holy Ghost, where is the Father? They replaced them with the Spirit, the water and the blood!

Why would they take out one of the strongest verses that define the trinity of God?

BTW, there is a footnote added for verse 8:

Quote:1 John 5:8 Late manuscripts of the Vulgate testify in Heaven: the Father, the Word and the Holy Spirit, and these three are one. 8 And there are three that testify on earth: the (not found in any Greek manuscript before the sixteenth century)

That is a lie, because there are manuscripts with these verses in them, including the Old Syriac (170 AD), Tatian (180 AD), and Old Latin (200 AD), while it is mentioned in numerous writings before 500 AD.

Read on:

NKJV Wrote:6 This is He who came by water and bloodJesus Christ; not only by water, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is truth.
7 For there are three that bear witness in Heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.
8 And there are three that bear witness on earth: the Spirit, (and)the water, and the blood; and these three agree as one.'

The New King James only changes a few words, but why?

Why did they remove some words, switch some around, and substitute different prepositions? And why did they remove the colon from verse 8 and replace it with a semicolon? That changes the meaning of the verse!

In case you think I'm being picky, read on:

NASV Wrote:6This is the One who came by water and blood, (even) Jesus Christ; not with the water only, but with the water and with the blood It is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.
7For there are three that testify:
8the Spirit and the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.

ESV Wrote:6This is he who came by water and bloodJesus Christ; not by the water only but by the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.
7For there are three that testify:
8the Spirit and the water and the blood; and these three agree.

See how huge portions of the Scripture has been removed or changed, and additions made?

If you point this out to a NV proponent, you will be told that the verses are changed/removed because the best manuscripts don't have verse 7, but as I explained above, that's not true. In my Scofield Bible, even he says that "It is generally agreed that verse 7 has no real authority, and has been inserted".

Sorry, Mr. Scofield, you swallowed that, hook line and sinker!

Don't you let others tell you that this verse isn't important, or that it isn't in 'the original manuscripts', because they too are either lying to you, or have believed a lie.

RE: Step One: the Practical Approach
Comparing the King James Bible Authorized Version with any modern translation of the Bible will show the following:

Colossians. 1:14 "Through his blood" is omitted.

Acts 17:26 "Blood!' is omitted.

1 John 5:7 The part of the verse proving the Trinity is omitted.

I Tim. 3:16 "God was manifest in the flesh" is changed to "He who was

made manifest in the flesh," thus weakening the doctrine of the Deity of Christ.

Luke 2:33 "Joseph" is changed to "Father" thus calling Joseph the father of Christ.

John 5:4 The whole verse is omitted.

Acts 8:37 The whole verse is omitted.

Mark 9:44,46 These verses are omitted in all modern versions.

Romans 16:24 The whole verse is omitted.

Matthew 18:11 The whole verse is omitted.

Matthew 12:47 The whole verse is omitted.

Mark 11:26 The whole verse is omitted.

Mark 15:28 The whole verse is omitted.

Mark 16:9-20 This passage is either omitted in the modern versions or placed in brackets with a footnote stating that it should not be there.

John 8:l-11 This passage is either omitted or placed In brackets with a footnote stating that it should not be there.

Acts 15:34 The whole verse is omitted.

Acts 24:17 The whole verse is omitted.

Acts 28:29 The whole verse is omitted.

Romans 8:11 Half of the verse is omitted.

Romans 1:16 The phrase "of Christ" is omitted.

Matthew 6:13 Half of the verse is omitted in the modern versions.

I Peter 2:2 The phrase "unto salvation" or "in regard to your salvation" is added to the text in modern versions to teach salvation by works.

Matthew 9:13 "To repentance" is omitted.

Mark 2:17 "To repentance" is omitted.

I John 4:3 "Christ is come in the flesh" is omitted

John 1:18 "Begotten Son" is changed to "Begotten God" in the NASV. This is also how it reads in the New World Translation of the Jehovah's Witnesses. These are only a few of the 36,000 changes made. In light of Scripture, one change is one too many (Deuteronomy 4:2; Prov. 30:6; Revelation 22:18).

2 Samuel 21:19

King James Bible Authorized Version: "...Elhanan slew the brother of Goliath..."

NIV: "...Elhanan killed Goliath..."

NASV: "...Elhanan killed Goliath..."

Daniel 3:25

King James Bible Authorized Version: "He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God."

NIV: "He said, Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.

NASV: He answered and said, Look! I see four men loosed and walking about In the midst of the fire, without ham, and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods."

Genesis 6:4

King James Bible Authorized Version: "There were giants in the earth..."

NIV: "The Nephilim were on the earth..."

NASV: "The Nephilim were on the earth..."

Genesis 7:1

King James Bible Authorized Version: "And the Lord said unto Noah, Come thou ... into the ark;"

NIV: "The Lord then said to Noah, Go into the ark,..."

NASV: "Then the Lord said to Noah, Enter the ark,..."

NOTE: There is a difference between "Come" and "Go". The King James Bible Authorized Version shows that the Lord was in the ark with Noah and his family.

I Samuel 13:1

King James Bible Authorized Version: "Saul reigned one year; and when he had reigned two years over Israel,"

NIV: "Saul was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned over Israel forty two years."

NASV: "Saul was forty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty-two years over Israel."

RE: Step One: the Practical Approach
They said He was but a man because He laid down to sleep: but, when He rose and commanded the wind and water - they obeyed Him.

He was only a many when he wept at the tomb: But, He was God when he commnaded Lazarus to come forth.

He was only a man He hungered; but, when He fed the five thousand and forgave sin.

He said, we Christians will suffer for His sake. And, the Bible is His word.

They say: People who use the King James Bible Authorized Version only, worship a Bible and not the God of the Bible.

You can not make such a distinction between the Word of God in flesh (Jesus Christ) and the word of God in print (the King James Bible). If the word of God in print has error, what about the word of God in flesh? No, both are infallible.

"Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever." -I Peter l:23

And ever, and ever; Heaven and earth will pass away but my words will not pass away. Glory to God in the highest and bless His Holy Name.
