Thanks again. Don't know what I'd do without y'all. Heart

Is that the first in the series? I don't recall. All I remember is that Ella starts out with the FBI, then joins the Rez police. I love her ongoing relationship with her mother and, later, her daughter....

Oops .... hope I didn't give anything away....

I've never been able to get into Hillerman, either. I don't know why.

Yes, that's the first. So, don't tell me more! Toetap

To me, Hillerman seems cold and one step removed.

What a delight! I love the reader; she has such a sweet voice.

I'm reading with my eyeballs:

I love it from the very first paragraph. Totally my cup of tea. Bless Felony & Mayhem's heart for reprinting vintage gems. Thanks again, William.

Yes, I was pretty sure you'd like Crispin! The books get better as the series progresses. I believe he was in his early to mid twenties when he wrote Gilded Fly.
I am done with John Piper's "Desiring God." It was a free audio book download. Rubbish in my opinion. To hear people talk, it was the greatest book known to man.

Thanks for the heads-up - at least you didn't pay for it!
My husband's job involves the psycho-social care of patients in a Long Term Care Skilled Nursing Behavioral Facility. These folks are on lock down and the world has to come to them. There is a woman there who reads as much or more than I do and my dh has asked me to recommend books she can borrow from our personal library that will be appropriate, that is, not upset her. She's blowing through each one I come up with in a couple of days. I'm just loving this. I feel like she's a sister. I think I should have been a librarian.
I reread "The Wind in the Willows" this week...

Oh, and I'm in Zephaniah.

No, sister, let me give you some delayed career guidance. You should not have been a librarian, no no no, because you'd find it too depressing to see what kind of trash gets checked out, and what kind of gems and masterpieces are neglected. I go to our local library a lot, and who do you think gets checked out more: Steven King or Joyce Carol Oates?

In fact, there are one or two books, like a very old anti-Catholic classic by Avro Manhattan, that I check out a couple of times a year, just to keep them in circulation. If a book never gets checked out, it gets sold for 25 cents at a "library sale."

You should have been an independent bookstore owner, selecting your own stock, specializing in things like your beloved Gore and Mayhem Press, or whatever it's called. There are a few of those stores still around, some even with comfortable chairs for customers to sit in and read; but they're getting crushed by the Borders and Barnes & Noble megastores. It's a shame.

This is just my opinion, and apologies to any of his fans out there, but I think there is something seriously wrong with Steven King; I mean personally, with the man himself. The few books I've read by him have seemed so profoundly disturbing and simply unwell.

Why does the name Avro Manhattan seem so familiar? I looked him up on Wiki but the list of books he wrote doesn't ring a bell.

Funny you should say that. My job has practically come to an end, just a few dribs and drabs once a week and loose ends to tie up. I've been an accountant my entire professional career but lately I've found myself daydreaming about working in a bookshop, specifically at 84, Charing Cross Road.
