Thank you, but I am not, like, "a student of Kryptonian lore." I quit reading comic books when I was a little girl. I just admire Supergirl.

I just finished this one. It's by one of my favorite authors? And it's very well done. It's a novel, okay? And it's touching, really sweet. About Elvis' time in Germany, as a soldier, and his relationship with a young boy who was a fan. Very high quality.

Our small group at church did an intensive Crown Financial Ministries study over a course of quite a few weeks based on the work of Larry Burkett. I thought it was excellent. This was back in the early part of this decade when things were booming, especially around here, but I remember the strong advice to get out of debt. How right he was! Some guy borrowed my book and I never got it back. Rather ironic.

I've never read anything by Crispin. How's the book?

I picked this up last night, for light reading before bed, a series of short stories that are perfect when you don't want to get too involved in a book before sleep:

The book is very amusing in a dry, witty 1940's British kind of way. Probably the fact that I listen to these books read by Brits enhances the mood. This is my third Crispin book and is considered by critics to be his best work. They seem to be getting better and better. I'm especially struck by how well he starts his books -- no slow beginnings.

This book is about the Chicago World's Fair of 1893. I found it to be absolutely fascinating. Did you know Cracker Jack, Shredded Wheat, Juicy Fruit gum, and many, many other new and wonderful things were introduced there?

It's so sad that the vibrant America described simply no longer exists.

Concurrently, the most psychopathic serial murderer I've ever heard of was doing in an amazing amount of people but I'd rather it had been covered in another book. Don't know if the author thought he needed a hook.
I just started this yesterday:

It's not grabbed me so far, but it might just be a slow starting book.

Last night, with a rare bout of insomnia, I picked up this book, which I've not read in about 40 years, and enjoyed it all over again:

Lynne, I loved that book! It was popular history at its best, very detailed and full of stuff I'd never known about before. And the photographs of the "White City" were eerie. Now you must read Larson's follow-up book:

This one is about the strange intersection of the lives of Guglielmo Marconi, creator of the radio, and the notorious killer Dr. Hawley Crippin, on the high seas of all places! Just like the other book, they're parallel stories that come together in a fascinating way. These books are terrific!

I will make a bee line for the book next time I'm in a store so I can see the photographs! I listened to the book, and the lack of illustrations is an audio book drawback, indeed. I've been looking at pics on the internet, though. Have you seen any taken at night showing all of the lights, or did they not have the technology to capture that?

Will do! It's an audio book too. Not the same narrator though, which is a shame.
