That's the problem with reading people like Bill Weise. By drawing your attention away from the Bible, even while quoting it, they subtly place doubts in your mind about God's mercy and justice. That's the Enemy's game, and you know it.
I'm sorry you don't like the image of God dangling sinners like insects over the fires. That was a
simile, Gilligan, a literary device used when people understood literary styles, and hadn't been dumbed down by television.
Anyway, dangling is better than dropping.
It's completely compatible, brother. Fear of Hell has saved many people from going there - some even in this forum, and many that heard Edwards preach that sermon. Jude 22-23.
My fear of Hell was what put me over the edge, and made me ask the Lord to save me.
I don't fear Hell anymore, but I fear it for others who don't realize they are headed there without Christ's saving grace.

I must apologize to Brother Gilligan: I made a stupid mistake. He asked if the Edwards sermon was compatible with God's mercy, and I replied; but instead of hitting the "Reply" button, I hit "Edit," making it look like my reply was his original message. To avoid confusion, I deleted the post. I am a weasel and a stale cookie, and I apologize for my carelessness.
Apology accepted. Thank you.
