Do you know the rest of that saying?

If wishes were horses, beggers would ride.
If turnips were watches, I'd wear one by my side.
And if 'ifs' and 'ands' were pots and pans
There'd be no work for tinkers!

I wonder if the younger generation knows what a 'tinker' is...?

I love it! Do you know who wrote it or was it that wise and wonderful anonymous?

It was in my Mother Goose book that I read as a child. It probably was similar to the "To market, to market to buy a fat pig ..." sort of traditional songs for children.

I had a Mother Goose book too! I haven't thought about it in years. It's time to revisit. I'm going to look for an ebook of it. I'll bet there's a free iPhone app or something.
Here's the one I had as a child:

I'm going to move this to a 'book' thread, if y'all don't mind.
Smile
I'm not so sure about Robin and Richard. Laugh
Oh, I enjoyed reading those, thank you.

I know what a tinker is or rather what he did and how he did it.

But NOT from experience, I read about it in an ancient history book Laugh
