(08-19-2010 06:03 PM)Here Am I Wrote: [ -> ]Here's a thought I just had:

If Christ has the marks of the nails in His hands and feet, and the mark of the spear in His side in His glorified body, then since we will be given a glorified body, and will be like Him, could it be that our glorified bodies will also have the nail and spear marks?

Just wondering...
Hmm

That is a very interesting question and one to which I have given much thought. However, it is one of those questions to which I can find no answer. It is possible and would serve to distinguish the "body of Christ" from other saints. But I don't know, somehow I believe that only Christ can display those scars. Now I have wondered if Christians who suffered for Christ, who were beaten and tortured, and those who died for the faith, if they will show forth their scars received for the cause of Christ, as evidence of what they endured.

I think only Christ can display those scars.

As to whether or not those who were martyred for the faith retain their scars, I don't know. Are their deaths for Him on par with His death for us? Only God knows. I'm more inclined to think they don't have their scars as evidence of what they endured, but they'll be well rewarded in crowns to cast at His feet at the Judgment Seat of Christ.
I can't think of a verse or passage on this, but I think that Jesus' scars are absolutely unique; and the fact that we'll be like Him doesn't extend that far. For example, we're all sons of God (John 1:12), but Jesus will forever be God the Son. We won't share that.

As for the martyrs, I think that their wounds and scars are in the same category as the tears that will one day be wiped away. I don't think they'll be part of their glorified bodies at all. They are very precious to God, and, as Laura said, they'll have a special crown to cast at His feet; but they were still sinners, and even the best of them were unprofitable servants, doing what their Lord required. We honor them by honoring Him.
