My Mother had a clipping of this in one of her cookbooks.

If children live with criticism, they learn to condemn.

If children live with hostility, they learn to fight.

If children live with fear, they learn to be apprehensive.

If children live with pity, they learn to feel sorry for themselves.

If children live with ridicule, they learn to feel shy.

If children live with jealousy, they learn to feel envy.

If children live with shame, they learn to feel guilty.

If children live with encouragement, they learn confidence.

If children live with tolerance, they learn patience.

If children live with praise, they learn appreciation.

If children live with acceptance, they learn to love.

If children live with approval, they learn to like themselves.

If children live with recognition, they learn it is good to have a goal.

If children live with sharing, they learn generosity.

If children live with honesty, they learn truthfulness.

If children live with fairness, they learn justice.

If children live with kindness and consideration, they learn respect.

If children live with security, they learn to have faith in themselves and in those about them.

If children live with friendliness, they learn the world is a nice place in which to live.
I've seen that before, sister, and God only knows how true it is!

My father was exteremely impatient. Saying something annoying to him would set off Armageddon. Then he wondered why I am so impatient.
My father was extremely impatient. He also drank and while he did not abuse us physically, he could be emotionally abusive.

I decided that I was not going to be like him, and did my best. I never really drank liquor, but I was rather impatient all my life.

Then the Lord saved me, and I became a new creature!

Oh, the impatience didn't all go away right away, but I prayed for the Lord to remove it, and what a difference it has made!

My dad got saved, too, at 79 years old, and he's so much more mellow and relaxed the last three years! What a blessing, praise God!

Great testimony Here Am I.
Fancy that Dad got saved at 79! ..alot of old folk just never do and they are so set in their ways.

Laura I have seen that too.It really is true...thankfully alot of children do a good job of bringing themselves up...no credit to Mum and Dad.
Thank you, sister.

Yes, we do learn what we live, and many of us try to not be as our parents were...but without the grace of God, we all fail.

The Lord took away my anger as well, and I am so thankful for His goodness and mercy towards us!

One other thing that is harmful is when parents act like the Brady Bunch at church, but when they get home behind closed doors, there is yelling, abuse, etc. This will cause the children to lose confidence in Christianity and may turn away from it completely.
