what is funny is im typing this message on my sons nintendo dsi... we dont have the cash for a new computer right now and dont want to charge one. anyone have any idea how i can reload the laptop? thanks.

Gary

Well Brother, I hate to be the confirmer of bad news, but it sound like your hard drive in the laptop failed.

On your desktop it sounds like all you need is a new motherboard. You can get one for less than $100.00. Maybe the guy at your wife's work can get you a good deal. Or maybe they have an extra computer they would loan you until you can aford to get yours fixed or a new one.

It is times like these I wish I lived closer to people. I have an extra laptop and also laptop hard drives that would work for you. I would even fix the desktop for parts cost alone.

I will be praying the Lord provides something for you.

Gary
tha ks gary you know how to lift my spirits.

the guy that looked at the computer said he looked and couldnt find a mother board. so in your opinion should it not be too hard to find one? you think we should have someone else look at it?

Gary

What make and model is the Desktop? I might be able to find one. It always pays to get a second opinion.

Most corporate IT guys don't rebuild systems as often as us independent techies do, we have sources for parts you wouldn't believe. Not making any promises. I will give my best shot though.
Additionally, second hand laptop hard drives are very inexpensive and usually easy to replace. I have several hanging around here that I use for backup drives
well here is the update. going to office depot in the morning and getting their ad special. a compaq with an amd proceser 320 ram and 2gig of memory for $269... we only use the computer for the internet, the church website , and loading our mp3 players. hope it will do the job.
That's where I got my new computer, brother, when it fried on me. They had an HP on sale, which was a blessing.

They did say that Compaqs are now made by HP, so it should be about the same as mine.

Brother Chris, ya done good brother. If I was buying a desktop I would go with Dell, HP, and Compaq as my top three choices to look at. As Lorelei mentioned, Compaq is indeed owned now by HP, which has vastly improved their reliability and over all quality.

I would not buy an EMachine. I wouldn't even take one if given to me. I have worked on too many of them over the years. Well I would prolly take one if it was free, but I would wipe the hard drive and put on a clean install of Linux or Windows. EMachines are software bloated and not real reliable.

Gary
Well I got the new computer. Got the one I went for. It has the Compaq name but everything on it says HP.

She is working like a charm.

Gary the last computer that got fried was an Acer and the one before that was an Emachine. The laptop we had given to us was an emachine.

Don't see yet what my father in law doesn't like about the AMD but seems to be working great.

Its a Compaq Presario EQ5300F , AMD Sempron LE- 1300, 320 GB Hard Drive with 2gb of Memory, super multi DVD drive and Windows 7 amd it came with 60 days of Norton. 309.00 shelf price with a $40 mail in rebate. Hopefully it lasts longer than 2 years.
I'm glad you're back in business, brother; the Lord must like HP. The laptop He got me for my 40th birthday (a year and a half ago) is a Compaq A900. It's His machine and to date, I've had absolutely no problems with it. It even runs pretty quickly still, which my desktop doesn't.
