Ecclesiastes 1:9-10

9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

10 Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.

This is something I have pondered for a long time. I believe that God when he created the earth, did not make it self renewing. I am talking about the physical sphere we call the earth.

He created and set it in motion. It will eventually run down. Like a flash light hen you need it being dead. This is why there will be earthquakes and other natural disasters in the end times, because the earth is dying. God told us if we see those things, then we would know the end is at hand.

Now some natural disasters will be the work of God in those times. Such as the one that rocks the land of Israel prior to the Second Coming of the Lord.

This might be why during the tribulation the years are only 360 days long. The earth has slowed down enough to affect its orbit of the sun.

Just some thoughts, feel free to correct or add to in the spirit of learning.

Hmm
Gotta love the googlebot - I missed this one and just now saw it.

I think you are absolutely right about the earth 'waxing old' and running down like an eight day clock on the ninth. Although I don't believe he created it that way. I believe that he created it to go on forever, but then man sinned and God brought the flood. I believe that the flood wrought a great havoc upon the earth from which it could not recover and that started the clock ticking to its destruction. Pre-flood the higher atmospheric environment, higher oxygen saturation, water canopy and UV protection, was all part of God's original design. Then the flood destroyed all that and knocked the earth off its axis and everything has gone downhill from there.

I saw footage of an asteroid the size of Rhode island skimming the atmosphere in broad daylight and careening back into the blue.
If we are that vulnerable, I would agree that the earth is not timeless.

but: my words shall not pass away. This beloved book we call "Bible" will be there. Originals; yes. Wycliffe's; I think so. TR, we'll be able to read them all. KJB; certainly. Surely some we are not aware of.
