The record will show that I "borrowed" this book from Here Am I back in April, but it does not show that she quickly took advantage of my hectic schedule and "borrowed" it back. Anyway, I'm just now getting around to reading it, and I recommend it very, very highly.
Thematically, the book is essentially a response to the various criticisms and lies that are perpetually directed at Dr. Ruckman and his teachings. In particular, it is a response to an anti-Ruckman tract written by a Pharisee in California, whose name shall not pass my lips or fingers, who has made a "second career" out of slandering Ruckman. But the book is more than simply a reaction to a hate tract.
It is divided into three sections. The first is "The Life of Dr. Peter S. Ruckman," which is not a biography, but a detailed discussion of the rumors, accusations, and lies that surround him: his marital history, his alleged "racism," his supposedly "foul mouth," etc. The author, Gehena Kim, who knows Dr. Ruckman well, tells the truth about these matters, and very effectively demolishes the rumors.
That's helpful, but not as helpful as the second section: "The Teachings of Dr. Peter S. Ruckman." Here the author takes Ruckman's most controversial positions, the ones most often attacked, and very effectively presents the evidence for those positions: Tribulation Salvation, the Gap, the spiritual circumcision, and more. Instead of answering the malevolent, lying critics point by point, the author simply explains the teachings, with supporting scriptures, thus putting forth the case for these teachings in one place, in one easily accessible book. This is very valuable.
The third section is equally valuable, especially to those who are relative newcomers to the King James Bible issue. It is "The KJB Stand of Dr. Peter S. Ruckman." The author puts forth Dr. Ruckman's positions accurately and clearly, and explains such controversial matters as "correcting the Greek with the English." But he goes farther: he gives information about the KJB and its history that was news to me, and I've been studying this stuff for years. (For example, one of the KJB translators had been elected Greek Lecturer by the faculty of Oxford University when he was 19 years old!) The author also addresses such questions as "double inspiration," the use of italics, and "advanced revelation." This section of the book would;d be an excellent introduction to the KJB controversy.
The book is not very well written. The author's forté is gathering facts and presenting them clearly; he is no stylist. Neither is Gail Riplinger. Neither was Paul, in such epistles as Colossians. But style is never to be put on the same level as substance.
I would enthusistically suggest that everyone buy this book, and read it.
