I do have a question though. Can you all point me to some books which deal with the Southern War of Independence, from a Southern perspective?

I am a huge history buff. I determined long ago to look at the issue from all aspects in history. being raised in Colorado, I have had a pretty good "indoctrination" in the Northern view, which I don't agree with.

I would like to read more about how the South viewed the situation and learn more.

From the glimpse I obtained from this movie I am humbled and ashamed of my side of the family from the Northern states. Of course the other side of my family is from Virginia.

Thank you Brothers Ronnie and William.

Last night I ran to the grocery store with Kaylee. I just wanted to get out of the house and also put some money on my debit card.

They have $9.99 movies at the grocery store. I was thinking they mght have Gettysburg, the second in the Civil War trilogy after God's & Generals.

I was looking at the movies and my eyes fell on a movie called The Blue and the Gray. I grabbed it as I stood up my eyes fell on the two disc DVD set of Gods & Generals and Gettysburg. So I grabbed it as well.

Had priced the two disc DVD set on Amazon and the cheapest they had for new was $11.87. So God blessed me muchly.

My question is, was The Blue and the Gray a good buy? I haen't opened the shrink wrap yet on it, so know I can get a refund. It is a three disc DVD set.

Also I am going to Pueblo today with the kids. We are leaving around Noon. I have a copy of Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol, that my aunt brought me when I was in the hospital. It is tied with a piece of fancy twine. I didn't untie it or even look in it. I read this book in digital form and while it does give some good information on the Masonic Lodge. I find his works are heavily Catholic in the underlying spirit. I plan to take it with me to Barnes and Noble and see if I can exchange it for either the book William recommended, or the one Ronnie did.

I am looking forward to spending the day with all three of my kids. It will be a good family time.

I believe that "The Blue and the Gray" is a romantically (enhanced Hollywood style) look at the war between the States not a historical look.

I am not assured that you will be able to return the "B & G" as copyright laws may come into play, I know that one can not return a PC game disc.

Very true Ron, game discs cannot be refunded if they have been opened. They can only be exchanged for the same title. Well in the state of Colorado anyway. However my B&G set has not been opened it is still in the plastic wrap they put around DVDs and the price tag is still in place.

If not I can take it to Gamestop and sell it for a credit against a purchase there. They have used movies in good condition and from time to time I can find one I want for my collection. I only watch movies on DVD. I have difficulty going and sitting in a crowd in a theater, it makes me nervous and anxious. I am working now to build up the history movies I have.

Well I watched Gettysburg. I was unimpressed with Martin Sheen as General Robert E. Lee. Robert Duvall did a much better job in Gods and Generals.

The battle scenes were spectacular.

I particularly enjoyed the performances of Stephen Lang as Maj. Gen. George E. Pickett and Robert Jordan as Brig. Gen. Lewis A. Armistead.

A couple interesting facts, Gettysburg was filmed first in 1993, whereas Gods and Generals was filmed in 2003. Ten years apart, but they did a great job of story continuity, though Gettysburg is set after Gods and Generals.

The other fact was Stephen Lang also portrayed Lt. Gen. Thomas 'Stonewall' Jackson in Gods and Generals. His performance in both was amazing.

I have not yet viewed The Blue and the Gray, I will do that in sections, since it was a mini-series made for TV.

I was also able in my trip to Pueblo, to pick up a copy of The South was Right. I exchanged my copy of Lost Symbol for it.
Ok, I'm downloading (renting) "Gods and Generals" from iTunes......nobody in this thread said that it's almost as long as "Gone With the Wind!" LOL!

Oh well. I can spread out the viewing pleasure over a couple of days if I need to.....
Sister, I liked that movie so much, I got it.

I don't buy DVDs, as a rule. I own just a few of my most favorites...

This just in from the pen of Pat Buchanan:

"This was a recognition of American terrorists." That is CNN's Roland Martin's summary judgment of the 258,000 men and boys who fell fighting for the Confederacy in a war that cost as many American lives as World Wars I and II, Korea, Vietnam and Iraq combined.

Pat is usually good, and this article shows it. Too bad he's a Catholic. :frown:
