Quote: 3And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.)
4And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.
Does Dr. Ruckman have any notes in is study Bible about Easter in verse 4?
I read a great piece by Sam Gipp on this at
http://www.av1611.org/KJB/easter.html .. The only study Bible I have is a King James Study Bible by Thomas Nelson says
Quote:Though Easter does not communicate correctly the time of year, the Greek word must be translated "Passover".
Online version of the Defenders Bible says
Quote:12:4 Easter. This is actually the "Passover," following the "days of unleavened bread." Because Christ's resurrection occurred immediately after Passover, Easter has traditionally been near the time of Passover. The term "Easter" itself, however, is probably derived from Eastre, the Teutonic goddess of spring.
Both study notes completely miss Sam Gipps view.
Basically what he says in his Commentary on Acts. Is that Herod was a Roman. Easter is a Roman holiday. He would put off doing anything with Peter until after he(Herod) had celebrated Easter. I don't have my RRB handy, it is in the truck and both kids are occupied elsewhere and I don't want to go out in the dark and try and walk around. It is in the truck because I carry it in my blanket bag when I go to dialysis, and I forgot to have Kaylee grab it when we got home. I will look though and post what he says in his notes tomorrow, if no one else beats me to it.
The two holidays Easter and Passover just happened to hit close to each other. The Roman Easter was placed on the calendar according to the spring solstice. So it varied from day to day of the week when it was celebrated. Passover is based on the same day of the year according to the Law.
Chris, I am going to make a suggestion. If you are looking to buy a new study Bible, get a Ruckman Reference Bible. There is so much info in the notes and so much wisdom you can't go wrong with it.
I haven't read Dr. Gipp's treatise on Easter vs. Passover, but I did hear his message on it. And if I was to make a bet, I would go with Dr. Gipp and not some flunky Thomas nelson had prepare the notes.
Lord Bless You and Yours Brother,

to what Brother Gary said.
My RRB is at home, as is my Acts commentary, so I can't say whether or not Brother Ruckman addresses the 'Easter' vs. 'Passover' issue. However, Brother Gipp does a great job explaining it. He, also, gets attacked on so-called 'Christian' message boards.
Paraphrasing a wise preacher: "Some people do have a time with the truth, don't they?" ;)
Brother Chris,
I have my RRB in front of me and his note on verse 4 is the longest note I have seen so far. I am trying to get my scanner working and I will scan the page for you and post it. That way you and others can see what he says. Unless someone else puts up a synopsis of what he says about it.
All I need is the power cord for my printer, scanner and copier unit. The kids did a little re-arranging of the furniture while I was in hospital and I have finally located my scanner, now just trying to find the power cord. LOL
Kids gotta loved them, can't sell them no market for the skins.

Thanks Guys.. I am considering a Ruckman Refrence Bible. I liked Sam Gipps explanation of the entire thing and the other two study bibles I looked at explained it away as a translation issue in my opinion.. I agree with what the Sam Gipp article said about it.
Wonder what the Scofield says? never mind I just Googled Scofield and his notes are online.. They too claim a translation issue in my opinion..

Patiently awaiting Garys scan..

I don't know. I do know he is familiar with Dr. Ruckman's teaching.

I checked Sam Gipps Schedule.. He is going to be preaching in Marietta Ohio at the end of May.. About 15 minutes away for a Sunday through Wednesday revival. Not sure on the church though. The Phone number listed has a 614 area code and Marietta is 740.. Did a reverse look up on the number and nobody has it. The church on his schedule page say "Marietta BT" The only thing I can think of is "Marietta Baptist Temple".. I use to go there.
