Apparently what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ is to 'give as much of yourself as you understand, to as much of Jesus as you understand'.
What a great opportunity wasted.
Boy, that's dangerous! And stupid, too. One of my former pastors sometimes said that a "model prayer" might be "God, if You're there, I give as much of myself as I understand, to as much of You as I understand."
That sounded good to me when I was about six months old in Christ; but, having a bit more experience under my belt, I know how foolish it is. Can a person be saved through such a prayer? Yes, absolutely: the Lord's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save. My own "salvation prayer" was something like "God, if You don't give me a new life, I'm gonna end this one, 'cause I've [messed] it up so badly!" And God saved me. Very quickly, however, the folks who led me to Christ helped me understand what I had just done. But would I recommend "my" prayer to anyone else? God forbid!
Rick Warren knows the truth. It's a shame that he doesn't have the guts or the grace to preach it.
Ack. I'll stick with what the Bible says:
Joh 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
Ro 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Ro 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
Ro 5:10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
Ro 5:11 And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.
Ro 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Joh 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Methinks Pastor Warren has been studying the successful all inclusive methods of Alcoholics Anonymous. Step 3 of the famous 12 Steps is: 3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him. Warren blends motivational models into one big yummy Margarita.

I love that response...
...now, what about those with itchy ears...?
I don't know what Warren has been studying, but I wish he could make salvation a little clearer than he did. He writes books, too, and I wonder how easy they are to read. I've heard that he teaches works salvation, though, so I probably wouldn't enjoy them too much myself. For his sake, I hope he knows what the gospel is.

Pastor Warren is a disciple of Peter Drucker, a man we viewed as a god in Business School. I repeat: Business School.
You can read about Peter Drucker here: http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/con...961001.htm
Interesting...so basically, he's taken Peter Drucker's ideas and put a religious spin on them.
That explains a lot!
And the end result is still not positive!
