Daniel is Daniel, for good or ill. There are different types of men. I doubt that he's a "tough guy," like a fighter, but he's one of those outdoor types. I know your question wasn't intended seriously; I'm just answering it.
You and I are men too. But it's expressed differently.
The best example of a real man in this forum is Brother Gary, because of his closeness to God. But isn't it wonderful how God gives us little glimpses of His own personality in different individuals?
You can't starve Daniel out, and you can't make him run, because he seems to be one one of them boys raised on shotguns. He says grace, and he says Ma'am, and if you ain't into that, he doesn't particularly care.
You and I are different. We can still hear the soft Southern winds in the live oak trees, and those Williams boys, they still mean a lot to us (Hank and Tennessee). I guess we're all gonna be what we're gonna be.
So what do you do with good old boys like the ones in this forum? Beats me!
God knows what he is doing! Thank God we all differ, the main things is that God is taking this mismatch motley crew, us living stones, and is building us together into his temple.
I appreciate all the Godly men here. You can see their love of God even in the silliness they often exhibit.
What is a Godly man?
What does the Bible say about what a man should be?
Proverbs 31 is what I look at when I get to thinking I'm doing pretty well...but what do you men look at when you want to see Godly manliness?

Jesus Christ
Amen. You took those precious words right out of my mouth.

However, I was looking for a male counterpart to the virtuous woman of Proverbs.
Maybe Paul's instructions to Timothy?
I think you may misunderstand what I meant, I did not mean Jesus Christ in some generic Sunday School answer. I mean the MAN Jesus, his manly life and how he lived and interacted with people. He surrounded himself with real men. I mean his compassion for sinners, his disdain for religious pretension, his intolerance for misbehaviour in the temple, his tenderness with children, his balance of time to work and yet make time for solitude and meditation with God.
Jesus Christ was a man's man, a dude's dude. He was not effeminate in any way as Hollywood likes to portray him. He never apologized for the truth, he never worried about offending people or making them mad. He drove the money changers out, by himself, and nobody stood up to him.
Apart for Jesus, there are many other examples in scripture from both the OT and NT.
I understood exactly what Daniel meant. If you want to see what God intended a man to be, you look at Jesus. He was the perfect man.
Paul's instructions to Timothy are helpful and absolutely crucial, of course, but they don't tell me how to "be a man." They're not the equivalent of Proverbs 31.
When I think about being a man, God's man, I have two places that I look. One is a specific verse: Be of good courage, and let us play the men for our people, and for the cities of our God: and the LORD do that which seemeth him good (2 Sam. 10:12). When I don't feel like a man, or am too stupid or gutless to be a man, I play a man: I do those things that a man should do. If I'm tempted to lose my temper, and am right on the verge, I remember that a real man has self-control, so I "pretend" to be a man, and keep my cool. God takes it from there, and does what seems good to Him.
The other place is looking at the men in the Bible. Jesus is the main example, as Daniel says; but trying to emulate Jesus is a tough job. God knew this; that's why He allowed Paul to say, "Be followers of me, as I'm a follower of Christ." God wasn't lowering the bar: He was graciously acknowledging that we sometimes despair of emulating Jesus. "Emulating," not "imitating:" trying to "imitate" Christ is madness.
But I look at the sinful men of the Bible, and how God used them and worked in their lives. The scheming Jacob, the lustful Samson, the gloomy Thomas, and dear, blessed Mephibosheth: such very human characters, just like me in so many ways. I see how God used them, and get a glimpse of what He can do, and wants to do, with me.
It's not spelled out in one chapter, like Pro. 31. Maybe (undoubtedly) women learn in a different way than men. Anyway, that's where I look to see "manhood."

That is one of my pet peeves. You named it better than I could - madness. We cannot be like Christ, but he can be himself in us.
Christ in you. the hope of glory
