Most "Westerns" I have seen have been entertaining without being profane.

Do you have a "Western" movie or series that you enjoyed? Maybe one that you'd recommend?

See if your favorite is on the poll, or choose "other" and let us know which one you like best. Choose more than one if you like.

Enjoy!

I voted for Rawhide.

I also liked and remember
Wagon Train,
'Hop a Long' Cassidy,
Have Gun will Travel,
and the Range Rider.

I might to list more but I just awoke from a nap and I can't think well right now.
I also liked "Bad Day at Black Rock". Anyone see that?

Bonanza, The Rifleman, The Lone Ranger

I liked Gunsmoke and Rawhide.

I like most John Wayne westerns, but not all.

Some recent westerns have broken the code and are complete trash and filth.
We shouldn't be talking about movies and TV shows in the same thread. But it's better than having two threads about Westerns.

(I hope that made sense.)

My favorite western of all time is "Tombstone;" in fact, it's one of my favorite movies of any kind. I hope that Daniel wouldn't consider it "filth:" it is rated "R," and although numerous characters are prostitutes, there is no sex or nudity, and it doesn't glorify prostitution: it's just that the historical characters really were prostitutes, and to depict them as "dance hall girls" or something would be inaccurate. The female lead, Josie Earp, is not a prostitute. (The "R" rating comes from a single usage of a certain four-letter word.) I have studied the Tombstone/Wyatt Earp/Doc Holliday story in considerable detail, and have written about it and taught classes on it. "Tombstone" is one of the most impeccably accurate movies I have ever seen. Much of the dialogue comes directly from court records and newspaper accounts of the time. It only takes one liberty with the historical facts: that is the death of Johnny Ringo. He probably didn't die as depicted in the movie; in fact, his death remains a great unsolved mystery. The historical accuracy is excellent, but the reason it's my favorite is because the acting is excellent and the script well-written.

But that's not the best western I've ever seen. Although I love John Wayne, and love many of his movies, the best western I have ever seen was Clint Eastwood's "Unforgiven." That was a pretty heavy movie, too, and I wouldn't recommend it for children. But it showed the misery and filth and hopelessness of a gunfighter's life, without becoming tawdry, and it was magnificently written and acted. It was also what I love to see in any type of movie: a great character study, with several really great characters.

I could list many more, but those are the two that come to mind.

No, I don't believe I've seen Tombstone, I was making reference to several other recent films that I will not name, but simple say one was about fruity-booty cowboys and another depicted James West in a rather untasteful role.

I know the movies you mean. I would sooner have a root canal than watch either of them. The first was absolute filth, one of the lowest points in Hollywood's low history. The second one was an outrageous attempt to cash in on an old TV series, as you know, using a popular "actor" whose very existence gets on my nerves.

They did a movie of "Maverick" in the 90s, with Mel Gibson and James Garner, and it wasn't dirty or distasteful. But with each passing year, Hollywood gets filthier and filthier.
Destry
with John Gavin,he was a dreamboat***sigh*** the TV series that never really caught on,but I loved him.

I can't believe that no one has mentioned the King of the Cowboys - Gene Autry.

Another one, Lash LaRue, he didn't use a six-shooter, he used a whip. I just dated myself. Overreact
